I have been doing Pilates with Lucy Slater for over four years and can highly recommend her as a terrific teacher. The best thing for me is that she tailors what I do to suit my personal needs. A fifteen minute walk would be sufficient to give me back pain. It took me twenty years to get myself to the doctors to ask for an MRI scan which clearly showed that my back problem was down to common disc wear. Our one on one sessions have been fun and hard work, but since Lucy ook me on as a client I’ve been enjoying a new lease of life. Lacking a strong core, working on my feet and running had taken its toll on my ower spine. Surgery was not an option and the solution that was presented to me was apparently simple; strengthen the core through exercise in order to take the strain off the lower back. From swimming to gym machines I couldn’t find an exercise that didn’t aggravate my back either immediately or the next day. In short, I couldn’t get any sort of work-out regime off the ground. Pilates under the watchful eye of Lucy meant rebuilding my strength and confidence and increasing my flexibility. With an absolute eye on control Lucy made sure there was no risk of further aggravating my condition through impact or over stretching. More recently Lucy has put me to work on a Pilates orientated cardio workout which has drastically improved my fitness levels. Lucy has also given me exercises to take home and use as a copping strategy for when my back bothers me, for instance, after a long drive. With Lucy’s encouragement I am now able to fully enjoy several activities which I thought I would never be capable. I cycle, ski and surf, and at the age of forty eight I have never looked better.
